mikea Yes, each digit consists of engraved plastic plates, one for each of the digits '0' through '9'. Each plate is illuminated by 2 LEDs. There are 6 digits, or bits, so there are 60 plates in total. Search for edge-lit display. The one I saw in the 60's was illuminated by small incandescent lamps. The plates and the lamps were placed into a machined aluminum block.

mikea LIR2032 3.6V. Mine came with a battery on the board and another as a spare.
