realblades Youdo know to fit the collet into the nut first, then both into the holder as a unit. That way the ejector flange inside the nut will catch the groove in the collet and pull it out.

realblades Learnto use ER collets. The eccentric flange inside is the ejector. You slip the collet into the nut so the eccentric part catches the groove in the collet. Then fit the whole assembly into the holder and tighten. When you loosen the nut, the eccentric flange is what pulls the collet out of the taper so you don't need to hit it from the backside like a Morse or R8 and other drawbar collets. That's the E_nhanced feature of ER and ESX collets.
