We have worked around with about five function generators in this price range over the past three years. So we can make some comparisons. The ET3320C comes out of this comparison as the best and most versatile function generator without any reservations. With this device, 'East Tester' has set a new standard on the market! We can unreservedly recommend this function generator to any serious hobbyist who wants to buy a good and versatile function generator for not too much money. The only two points of criticism, but immediately very serious ones, are the lack of a fuse in the primary supply circuit and the fact that the ground of the three BNC connectors is connected to the mains plug ground only via the PCB.

The electronics of the GY20451 The version of the GY20451 supplied to us contains only ten electronic parts. Thus, the scheme is quickly reconstructed and worked out in the illustration below. The 12 V supply voltage is converted into 5 Vdc in U1, an AMS1117, to power the microcontroller. Both the input and output of this stabilizer are decoupled with capacitors C5, C1 and C2. LED1 is connected to the 5 V output via the series resistor R1. An STC15W104 is used as microcontroller. It has a built-in clock generator, so no external parts are necessary in this scheme. Two square waves with a frequency of 40 kHz appear at the outputs P3.2 and P3.3. These two signals drive the two inputs of U3, a TCA4427. That is a double 'High-speed Power MOSFET Driver'. The outputs are connected by means of two MOSFETs either to ground or to the 12 V power supply. These two outputs directly feed the two piezoceramic resonators TX1 and TX2.

It will be clear that this power supply is an example of superior Chinese technology. The measured performance can be called brilliant. The way in which this device is constructed is also taken care of in detail. Another question is whether this power supply is useful in use. My opinion: no! The dimensions are in fact too small to be applied conveniently in daily laboratory practice. Just give me a traditional power supply with potentiometers to set the voltage and current. The last question to be answered is how the price/performance ratio of the MDP-P905 can be assessed. My answer is that this power supply is too expensive for what the device performs. In terms of specifications similar power supplies are for sale for prices around € 60.00. The MDP-P905 is in my opinion a gadget for technicians who do not mind spending some extra money on a product that clearly distinguishes itself from the competition.

The internal looks neat and tidy. On the left you see the mains filter and next to it the rectifier of the mains voltage with two large smoothing capacitors. The electronics are still very traditionally built with axial components on a single-sided PCB with wire bridges. You will search without success for SMD components. Notice that isolation slots are milled into the PCB in many places. The heavier components are fixed with sealant. All in all, this power supply makes a reliable impression. We could not resist performing a few tests on this power supply. Our specimen produced a voltage of 65.263 V without load. Loaded with a current of 5.5 A, the voltage drops to 65.134 V. The voltage drop is thus 129 mV. This corresponds to an output stability of 0.20 %. The figure below compares the hum and noise at no-load (left) and full-load (right). The peak-to-peak value of the noise and ripple at full load is therefore 250 mV.

A major improvement is that the column on which the microscope is mounted can tilt backwards, so that much more space is available for soldering a PCB on the base. Tilting also helps against reflections in the image and it is much easier to decipher the lasered texts on chips at a certain angle. The LED lighting works great when it comes to getting a sharp and clear image of a detail of a part or a solder weld on a PCB. However, the color fidelity is worthless with this cold white lighting. If you want to take a nice picture of a small PCB, it is best to switch off the LEDs and use the natural ambient light. The microscope then provides much nicer and more color-true images. It often happens that we sell a tested product for half the price to one of our readers. That won't happen with this G1200(D) microscope! We keep it as a very worthy replacement for our old G600. After all, we are very satisfied with the quality and sturdiness of the G1200(D). The only downside that we can think of is the mechanical instability already described when you press one of the buttons, which causes the image to vibrate. A second later, however, the device gives a stable image again, you have very little trouble with it in practice.

The radio is powered from a 5 V USB mains power supply which is not supplied. Included is a power cable from USB-A to standard 5.5 x 2.1 mm power plug. Dominant on the front panel is the display. It shows '==STEREO RADIO==', but that does not make sense, as the radio has only one built-in speaker and is therefore mono. Above the display is a row of ten LEDs. These form a double LED VU-meter, controlled by two KA2284 chips. Below the display, there are two large red push button switches and four small black push buttons. The left red switch turns the radio on or off. Irritating is that the last settings are not stored in the memory. The radio will always start up at the lowest frequency in the FM band that gives an acceptable signal and with the volume set to 8.

This five-meter-long light-strip is composed of segments that are exactly 50 mm long and each contain three RGB-LEDs plus three series resistors to feed the whole from 12 Vdc. There is a cut-line between two segments, you can cut the ribbon there so that you can adjust the dimensions of the light tube. The strip is provided on the back with a good adhesive layer VHB Adhesive from 3M with protective sheet. After removal of the protective sheet, you can easily attach the strip to any smooth surface. The LEDs use the following currents: red LEDs 864 mA, blue LEDs 673 mA, green LEDs 723 mA. The internal resistance of the five meters for the red voltage line is 4.3 ohms, the blue voltage line 3.8 ohms and the green voltage line 3.8 ohms.

It will be clear from the test results that there are really no points of criticism about this module. If you need to accurately measure a DC voltage somewhere, you can use this inexpensive module without any hesitation. Most wire-wound high-power resistors are quite inaccurate. We tested these resistances by sending a constant current of 1.00 A and measuring the DC voltage across the resistors, see the diagram below. The results are excellent, see the attached table. Conclusion: the most accurate power resistors ever bought!

We have tested three of these PCB's with a voltage of 30 Vdc and a load of 10 ohms. Unfortunately, we are unable to test this PWM print under the specified full load of 90 W at 35 V power supply. But if we extrapolate the results of our test at 30 V and 75 W, we are convinced that this print will function well under full load. If we take the incident with one bursting thermal fuse as an accidental defect, due to a part with a manufacturing fault, we can decide that this extremely cheap power regulator does what it is supposed to do. If you have to regulate the power of DC voltages up to 30 V and 3 A, this PCB is recommended.

Stabiliteit van de uitgangsspanning Deze voeding gedraagt zich perfect. Wij hebben als eerste test de uitgangsspanning ingesteld op 5,00 V en de voeding stapsgewijs belast tot 2,000 A. We are extremely satisfied with this microscope and we can recommend it if you are looking for such a tool. It is an ideal tool to check the soldering of SMD-components on your PCBs and to get the codes on such parts clearly visible. The only thing we miss is the possibility to offer the images directly to a PC via the USB port. If you want to do something with the photos, for example publishing on your blog, you have to remove the card from the microscope and connect it to the USB port of your PC via a card reader.

The sensitivity is excellent. Even with a distance of 3 to 4 mm between your finger and the sensor side of the PCB, the module reacts by switching the output. We have attached a module to various sheet materials and investigated how this affects the sensitivity. Sheets of various types of plastic did not cause any problems. Even with a sheet 3 mm thick, the module reacts without problems when you touch it on the place where the module is located on the other side. This opens up interesting applications, such as making touchable front panels of measuring equipment! Glass is a different story, the module's output is already activated when the module is attached to a glass plate. The same applies to cardboard. We have not investigated how this works when an extra capacitor is soldered on the PCB to reduce sensitivity.

This function generator meets the manufacturer's specifications on almost all measured parameters. It is a nice little device for the hobbyist. We are charmed by the provision of the -20 dB attenuator button, which allows you to set small signals for testing audio amplifiers without problems. All cheap function generators should have such a button! We are less charmed by the strange way in which you have to set the lowest and highest frequency of a sweep. It is not obvious that these parameters are stored in the M1 and M2 memories. Why not add these two settings to the menu as options, for example after the FUNC:TIME option? That would have made more sense. Finally, we would like to express our surprise at the impractical size of the front panel, which makes it very difficult to install this module in an enclosure. A regrettable shortcoming that could have been solved very easily and cheaply!

The is a very nice kit for teens interested in technology. It is easy to assemble, even without much electronics experience. It works guaranteed! All you need to make sure is that the LDRs and the LEDs are properly aligned. We made a course by sticking black insulating tape on a white table top. It is nice to see how the simple electronics are able to make the car follow this course flawlessly.
