ebelin I have the same problem. The display worked before encasing the components. I bet that one of the standoffs screws short-circuits the signal, most likely the upper standoff opposite to the antenna.

I am by no means audiophile but the sound is very tinny -- almost no base at all. If I shove them into my ear all the way and hold them there forcefully -- I get better sound, but nothing compared to my Jabras 65t. Also, the touch-button is an awful idea. I don't how people insert their buds into their ears, but I manage to turn the music on and off, skip or rewind tracks, etc. It is horrible idea and not the best implementation either.

Fantastic kit -- very nice quality! In our case there was only one issue -- the electrolytic capacitor was too fat for the hole in the case, which made it look bad in the end, but my son just took it off. We also didn't flatten buttons' feet, which made buttons stand out too much, but meh. Ordering another kit to build it again, without mistakes this time. Definitely cool project to do with your kids.

Does exactly what it promised to do. But beware -- too much power. I'm afraid to use it and getting a 5mW laser instead.

This is training kit for kids, essentially. My 11yo son loved it -- we went over several YouTube videos to understand how the lock works and what one needs to do to open the lock if key is lost, etc. It is a training set to learn about locks, not about lock-picking though. My son immediately wanted to get some doors open in the house but quickly learned that the real thing is, well, real. Bottom line: if you are curious about locks or have pre-teen boys -- get it now, it is super-cool time to spend with your kid.

My got it for my 11yo son (the second clock of this kind). He spent close to 2 hours soldering it and assembling it, with me being close and helping with things once or twice. It is fantastic soldering training kit which actually yields a usable product, that he can share with friends, etc. If you have a 10+yo kid, get it now. I would advise to get digital soldering station (so much easier!) to smooth things, and this kit is awesome -- the board is very well made and is very forgiving. Components are good. The only funny thing is the double-button set up process, but nothing one cannot do. Let me say this again -- this kit is awesome, but I would recommend to get the kit with the case. It is surprisingly good looking and quite usable. I would also recommend to find Steve Mould's YouTube video about quartz watch mechanism and watch and discuss with your kid. It is really quality time with your kids.

These are better than FYE8 due to physical button but the sound is still disappointing. Talking to people on the phone is acceptable but music -- forget about it.

The quality of components seems very good, but packaging... My speakers came wrapped in a thin layer of bubblewrap and were damaged. The rest of the package looks good. I'll say more when I will have put it together.

First, the good: it is a really neat project to do with your kids. Thank you for the product! Now, what can be improved in no particular order. Note that these are just minor annoyances, not something against the product: 1. The board is too small -- it cuts through C1 holes and makes soldering C1 harder than the rest. Some other commenters mentioned this as well 2. It would have been nice to help identify magnetic rod coil leads (1, 2, 3 and 4) 3. Speaker came a little damaged 4. The case is too small! I shoehorned 2x Energizer AA batteries but they were pressing very hard against the speaker's magnet, and they were really distorting case plastic 5. Few spares (223 capacitors) would be nice

Fantastic project to do with your kids. Me and my 11yo son spent 2 hours putting it together, and he is happy as a clam. Project is forgiving enough -- he did almost all of the soldering (I just did the battery holder pads) and it worked just fine. Huge thanks for the product!
