acontini the 5v pin is at 5v only when the board is connected to the USB or other 5v external power supply.

Q: Does this use the 2G network? If so, no good for me. 2G not available in Canada.

acontini yes, the module is GPRS-2G so It looks like you'll have issues in Canada. I can suggest SIMCOM HSPA-3G or LTE-4G (with correct bands) modules
