After installing the set of retracts, I decided to take the grub set screws out in order to reverse the strut so that the spring would not face forward and get clogged with dirt and grass, and to add Loctite to prevent the strut from coming loose. This is standard for all metal to metal screws and bolts. After taking out the set screws for the strut, the strut could not be taken off in order to turn it around. It was frozen in place. So I loosened the 2 grub screws to the connecting strut pin in the retract itself. I was able to turn the strut around and proceeded to reinsert the grub screws to hold the strut in place. But the grub screws could not find the flat spot on the pin so I tried to remove the strut with the strut connecting pin still attached. After much tugging and pulling I was able to get the strut out. But the flat spots were no longer flat. The metal on this item is VERY SOFT and not worthy of being used for its intended purpose.
