After contacting BG on five occasions, Still no one has replied to tell me what is the front face of this unit to have the Mag/compass pointing in the correct direction? Any one out there know, help please-it would be most appreciated, as it's usless to me at the moment, Regret this purchase BG.

  • Jimmee Hi, there is a small point on the plastic cover of the compass IC. You need to rotate a PCB to this point will be on top left. In this case the forward direction is LEFT. So in this type of M8N GPS PCB the good front forward direction is that the side where is the small lithium battery soldered. But as the compass IC is on the lower side of the panel, you need to set up in Mission Planner:

  • Hi Jimmee,So you are saying the front of the GPS Unit is the side where the battery is soldered and the back will be where there is the third hole(aerial hole), I have change all the settings in UBLOX, thank's very much for all the help.Age(locke)

  • Jimmee Hi, if there are letters on the compass HMC5983 IC, then the left side is the front direction.

  • Helihubby Hi jimmee, thanks for all the help, I finally figured it out after adding this CLI comand in Baseflight(set_align_mag_z=7) it's now rock solid ! and working in the correct orientation, Cheers.

  • Helihubby Hi Jimmee, yes thank's for all the help I did finally figure it out, I had to put some CLI comands in to Baseflight for it to work(set align_mag_z=7)after configuring it for use in UBLOX, all good now Rock solid. Cheers.

  • duststorm This module uses a HMC5983 chip as its electronic compass. If you look up the datasheet of that chip (http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1802211.pdf) it tells you the how the axes are oriented.Your FC generally expects X to point left, and -y forward. Knowing that, look at page 4 of the datasheet and you will see that the SCL and VDD pins of this chip should point forward, and I2C/SPI pin to the left.The mark indicates pin 1.Find the compass chip on the board, the small perfectly square chip.
