I got this to replace my old digital thermometer. It was behaving intermittently shutting off when I was trying to use it thereby telling me it was time to retire it. This thermometer is a bit bulkier than my old one but has more features and cost less than a replacement battery for my old one. I actually prefer the side reading display since I don't have to stand over a hot pot to read it. .
