The transformer in this kit is not sealed in any way, so it sparks internally in two visible places (even with 3V input). This will quickly damage the transformer. My solution was to fully immerse the transformer in mineral oil (baby oil). I used the small plastic top of a hair spray pump bottle that was just the right size. I cut holes for all the wires and sealed them with "Household GOOP". I used the bottom of another similar lid to seal the top. Now with the transformer in oil the input voltage
