Unit requires 4 AAA batteries. I inserted the 4 batteries and the light came on immediately as I held it in my hand. I placed the light inside a kitchen cabinet and closed the cabinet door. The light extinguished in 15 seconds. I opened the cabinet and instantly the light came on. I will mount the light in a Pantry but I used the cabinet as a convenient test site. It works exactly as I had hoped it would. The light MUST be in a dark place. Do not expect the light to operate in a bright room.

I was skeptical about this unit, but it's definitely impressed me. The motion sensor works great, it's relatively bright and was easily installed. I had a couple of those 3 LED round units you can find at your local hardware store and they suck compared to this one - they didn't have motion sensing and weren't nearly as bright, not to mention the mount for them broke easily. I'm buying a couple more of these!
